Some people assume that all maple syrup is organic because no pesticides are used in its production. But organic maple syrup it is much more than that! And simply not using pesticides does not make a product organic.
So what is certified organic maple syrup? It starts with carefully managing our natural maple forests to ensure their health for future generations. No chemicals are allowed on our entire farm, and buffer zones must separate the land from any neighboring farms that use them (which is actually not the case for us!).
At least 15% of the trees in our forest are not sugar maples, keeping the ecosystem diverse. We also follow a forest management plan to promote wildlife habitats, regeneration, and growth.
We only tap trees that are large enough (>23cm) and always limit the number of taps to one per tree to protect theme. Our taps are the latest design to minimize impact, and we make sure no waste ever stays on the forest floor.
For harvest and production, all our equipment is food-grade and cleaned with eco-friendly products. We follow strict guidelines for cleaning our equipment (reverse osmosis/evaporator) and we made significant investments for this purpose. In addition, instead of using chemical defoamers during boiling, we only use 100% organic vegetable oil. Every barrel of our syrup gets a unique number, allowing us to trace it back to the exact day of production. Unlike most maple syrups that are usually a blend from multiple producers—we bottle only the finest syrup straight from our farm!
